You already know that cement is a composition of limestone and clay.They heated together which lead to the formation clinker.Clinker is then ground with gypsum results in the production of cement.
The properties of cement mixture vary with the amount of ingredients used and proportions of bogues compounds formed during the hydration process.Among these cement types, ordinary portland cement is most commonly used cement.
Ordinary Portland cement is grey in colour and OPC is most available cement on the market.OPC cement is classified into three grades based on their ability to achieve compressive strength at its 28th day.
Difference between 33 Grade, 43 Grade and 53 Grade cement.
1. 33 Grade OPC cement
They are normally used for general construction purposes.33 grade cement achieve 33N/mm² (Mpa) at its 28th day after casting.They are commonly used for making concretes which having low strength such as below M20 grade concrete.
Note: 33, 43 and 53 are the grades of OPC cement.M20, M25, M30… are the grades of concrete.Don’t confuse between grades of OPC cement and grades of concrete.Both are different.
2. 43 Grade OPC Cement
They achieve 43N/mm (Mpa) at its 28th day after casting.They are used to making concrete having a grade between M20 and M30.In 43 grade cement, the initial setting time and early strength will be lower than 53 grade cement.
In 43 grade cement, the chance to form cracks will be less, this is because the hydration and early strenght will be lesser.The hydration process can be controlled by proper curing without chance of occurring cracking.
3. 53 Grade OPC Cement
Like above two cement grades, 53 grade achieve 53Mpa at its 28th day.They are mostly used for concrete grades above M30.They are used for the construction of chimneys, flyovers, bridges etc..
They have higher strength and durability than all other grades of OPC cement.Also, they can achieve a higher rate of hydration and early strength faster.Proper care should be taken to avoid the formation of microcracks during its fast hydration process.
